Job Description:
Proactively identifying and resolving customer and network trouble.
Work with various customers, LECs, CLECs, collocation customers, vendors, contractors and Qwest Control Centers.
Able to use a PC/laptop and associated programs. Basic knowledge of MS Office & MS Outlook
Performs work associated with Trouble Tickets, Change Management tickets and MOP’s (Method of Procedure)
Provides instruction to junior Technicians on administrative duties
Accurately maintains site inventories, i.e. CATS, C-Spares, Fiber Assignments
Performs housekeeping on all assigned areas / site
Utilize and perform admin duties on all modules: WDS, SIS, CATS, EZ Systems, E-Site
Report Functions include weekly activity reports, vehicle logs, time sheets. Must be accurate and submitted on time
Initiate and provide input on engineering plans for construction work on or around Fiber Optic Cable
Competent in all duties/tasks during restorations and hot-cuts at work location or in sites.
Read and interpret As-Built drawings, provide updates as necessary
Perform cable locate functions, by utilizing OTDR equipment and As-Built drawings
Supervise construction work on or around fiber optic cable
Performs route surveillance
Supervise contract personnel as necessary
Performs remote access via telnet or direct connect to transport equipment to determine possible troubles and propose course of action to correct deficiencies
Competent in testing and troubleshooting of DS3 and optical circuits, and the use of associated test equipment
Perform routine & complex maintenance on various transport equipment
Escort vendors, contractors, and IRU customers
Able to construct, install, and test DS3 & optical patch cords for a X-connect
Performs circuit pack level troubleshooting under direction of NCC
Uses vendor’s technical manuals or CD’s to find pertinent information regarding operation / maintenance of transport equipment
Performs routine maintenance on site environmental support systems i.e. HVAC, fire control, environmental alarms, lighting, and building maintenance.
Qualifications:
Strong technical and troubleshooting skills on the network systems and/or maintenance activities. Both inside & outside plants.
Resolves complex network circuit problems involving power, network hardware and software, and environmental support system.
Use software and hardware tools to identify and diagnose network status and problems.
Maintain a valid state operator’s license and satisfactory driving record in accordance with applicable laws and Qwest’s Fleet vehicle safety program.
You should be able to work independently without supervision but also work within a team providing support to others when needed.
Work Environment:
Position requires performing clean up, working with power, lifting boxes and equipment.
Driving and maintaining a company vehicle
Work outdoors to maintain Fiber route, and indoors to maintain Transport equipment
Some shift work maybe required.
Special Requirements for the Job:
Ability to perform physical activities including, but not limited to lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds.
Ability to get and maintain a government security clearance.
