Mike Cook

I thought I would pass on some sad news about TSgt Mike Cook. He passed away on 8 May 2007. Mike was a good cable/antenna dawg, but more importantly he was a great person and friend. I know he will be missed by all who knew him. Below is the article that was written in the Air Force Times.

Kunsan tech. sgt. found dead

Staff report
Posted : Monday May 14, 2007 5:50:26 EDT

An airman at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea, was found dead in his dorm room Tuesday.

The Air Force identified Tech. Sgt. Michael Cook of the 8th Communications Squadron on Wednesday. No cause of death was given. Members of Cook’s unit found him dead in his room after he failed to report for duty on Tuesday.

Cook’s death is being investigated by airmen of the 8th Security Forces Squadron and the Air Force’s Office of Special Investigation.

“As the leader of the Cable Maintenance Section, Mike was a positive influence to his Airmen and our entire squadron,” said Maj. Bryan Richardson, 8th CS commander and an associate of Cook’s. “I knew I could count on him to accomplish any task I gave him in a manner that brought credit and pride to the Wolf Comm family. The entire 8th Communications Squadron, past and present, joins me in offering our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. Mike will be remembered and missed by all.”

Although I didn't know TSgt Cook, it will be my honor to participate in his final military honors. TSgt Cook will be laid to rest Friday, 18 May 2007 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I'm currently serving on the Offutt Honor Guard and will be the head pallbearer for his funeral. As a fellow Dawg, I will honor his memory proudly. My condolences go out to all who knew him.

I had the pleasure of working for TSgt Cook for serveral months at Balad AB late in '04. He was a great guy to work for with a great sense of humor. It's too bad our paths won't ever cross again.

Rest in Peace.

Mike and I arrived at the Kun the same night. Though he was Cable and I am Wire we still worked closely a lot in the short time. We even shared the same shift for exercises. He was a hard worker and awesome guy to be around even in the trying times of an ORI in Korea. It's been a rough emotional coster for our unit since his passing but we have gotten through it and are appreciating the time he was with us. You will be sorely missed and never forgotten Cook!

If you're talking about the tall, skinny guy, then yeah... he was at Yokota around that time frame. I remember him saying that he'd been there for 7 years or so shortly before he PCS'd to Kunsan.
