2E6X2 Bases?

What bases does the 2E6X2 job exist at? I leave for basic in 4 weeks, and I want to put down bases on my dream sheet, but I want them to bases I have a chance at getting, so I can put them in order of my want to less wanted. Can anyone help me out and tell me what bases my job exists at? Thanks a lot!

EDIT: Man, these forums are dead aren't they?

Here you go. A piece of advice; go overseas and stay there as long as possible. C&I transformation is killing active duty cable maintenance in the States...

Are there opportunities in being in a Combat Communications Squadron over seas?

The 1st Combat Comm at Ramstein possibly. I don't know if they have X2s assigned though. Any 1CCG folks on the board?

The Cable and Antenna shops are going away at Andrews. Most of the folks got orders or coded. Good luck at Keesler!

Join the Air N ational Guard E&I Units. There are about 15 E&I Units across the U.S. left. There are both Cable and Antenna shops at each unit and we are very active throughout the U.S. and especially in Iraq/Afghanistan. We survived long after they dispanded the Active Duty units and we will never become a civilian shop like active duty is.

Negtative, they're in the same Group as us 1 CMXS step kids. At the KMC area (Ramstien area) theres us at Kapaun with a 25 personnel shop and theres Einsiderhopf (sp) which is being reduced too.

By time you go through tech school and hit your first base there will most likely be a slot open for you. Keep us in mind 2 yrs down the road. We require a resume due to it being special duty, plus you have to be finished your CDCs. We just filled 3 SrA slots which positions finally got filled after the 2nd go round with the ads on Equals Plus...again keep us in mind.

Also, IMO I would go 85th EIS at Keesler, to me installing systems is great fun, plus they have all the low pros and trenchers that you need training on, and may not get elsewhere. I left there a yeaqr ago so its hard to say how it has changed (good or bad) I'll say after 18yrs of this career field...yeah tech school for me was '88-'89...its the most fun in life I've ever had. I couldnt ask for a better career field. Work your ass off, learn all you can, and get around people that will teach you good habits, you'll findout the slackers really quick. Good luck, oh and dont let SrA Graf or TSgt Leisure give you a hard time in Tech School...their great guys, ask them for advice also TSgt Norton, he'll tell you some great EIS stories!!

As one of those ANG EI guys (AGR type - 'full timer' for my active duty comrades)...

It has been my understanding that in some 'leaning forward' manner 2E6XXs are going to be kaput - except in EI. Furthermore, Antenna will be moving to Airfield systems and EI will house any cable troops in the USAF. A76 contractors will provide common services on base cable plants. Truly shortsighted and sad, in my humble opinion.

Same thing happening to CE on many AFBs.

Hang tough and keep the faith!

Markel, out...

Hmmmmm, hadn't thought about the Kapaun chaps (1CMXS)... kinda hard to quick reaction (SMT) a cable problem in USAFE without cable dawgs... Oh well, they'll (USAF) figure out what they forgot to think of when the puters go down and the runway lights flicker. Small wonder why 'Lessons Learned' websites outnumber brain cells.

By the way, 'howdy' to anyone left in 1CMXS who I know (I know most have mosey'd). Tell Isabelle that the CONUS EI guys pass along our regards. And, lastly, if CMXS still needs LFA training slots or training roadshows, someone needs to be in touch with us. Our FY09 schedule is already in draft form and nothing from USAFE is on it.

Why are they still taking in 2E6X2s if they are getting rid of them? What happens if they get rid of my job while I am in? Am I kicked from the air force with a salute and a hand shake? Or do I get assigned to a different job?

Schlitz, the AF might not kick you out of the service. They'll look for any other jobs open in other AFSCs and you'll have the option of cross-training into them.

And b4thunder was talking about the E&I squadron at Keesler. You'll learn more about it when you get to Sheppard.

Have fun in EP learning about diodes and stuff. haha
