NATO assignment to Naples, Italy (have questions)

Are there any cable dawgs out there that have had this assignment or know anything about it? I am just wondering what type of work I will be doing, what is the off base housing like, what areas near naples are good areas to look for housing in, etc. Also, let me know anything else you might think would be beneficial to know before I go. Thanks in advance.

I've been through Napoli a few times back in the early 90s. Its dirty and the Wendy's on base had some serious fly issues. We usually stayed in a hotel with full pensione. I've heard through the grapevine that Humpty Dumpty finally retired. She was this old nasty hooker that always hung out on a corner near the base. Classic. Every year when we would head down there for PMIs, there she'd be.......

On the bright side, Naples is Italy and Italy is awesome. You're in a great location to travel from. Enjoy.

I was stationed in Bella Napoli from 01-04. Anyway...you'd be working at JFC South (formerly AFSOUTH). It's a tiny NATO base. You'd be one or two...heck, maybe even the ONLY cable dawg there. Work was pretty much non-existent. You'd be housed with the Navy at the Support Site, which is pretty nice housing actually. It's about a 10-20 minute drive to work, depending on traffic. All in all it was one of the best places I've been. Naples is pretty dirty though... If you have anymore questions, e-mail me.

I've got some experience with runnin a GOV in Naples," let somebody else drive"
. If you can make it out of there without a dent (aside from the occassional side view mirror check with civilian vehicles) then you are qualified! Vern can back me up on this one.

People who think driving in Manhattan is intimidating, ain't seen ******. Red lights? what is that? How about 6 cars wide at an intersection meant for 3! Not to mention about 50 pedestians and motorscooters climbing curbs. The worst I've ever had experience with. The international drivers class at Aviano didn't mention anything about that scenario.

I drove to Manhattan with a rent-a-car from TX and had cabs beeping horns at me, like, WTF!

From the sounds of it traffic is pretty bad. I guess it would probably be a bad idea to take my Harley with me, huh? Also, I was reading on the Navy support site web page that for single E-5's and above will be housed off base on the economy. Does this apply to AF or just the Navy folks? If for some reason I am the only cable dawg there, would it be pretty tough to get leave to travel while I am stationed there? Thanks for the info fella's.
