WIRE!!!!!!!!! What's up Dawgs..... I can't speak for Osan (Penny Freeman is most likely the foremost expert on that place.) Last I had heard, the shop was a decent size 30+ Dawgs. I would imagine at least 3-4 lady Dawgs/Pups in there. Based on my experience at Kunsan (circa 97-98), if you arrived on station without a nickname or one that the Dawgs didn't see fit for you, then they would usually come up with something better for you. Example, during my tenure at the Kun we had T-Bone (last name Tromboni), HuggyBear, BrownEye (last name Browning), Vollms, Gibby, Catfish (cause his life revolved around fishing), Kitty Kat (last name Felix at the time and the only female in the shop for most of the tour), Virus (last name rhymed with ebola), Chef (resembled Chef from South Park), AWOL (cause he arrived two weeks late)........ I think you get the picture. As for initiation.... there used to be a practice of 'earning' your first Wire Dawg coin. Those of legal drinking age would normally consume a 'good size' drink with a bunch of different liquors in it (basically the Dawgs get you trainwrecked, AKA drunk). Those of non legal drinking age would consume a cup of pretty much anything (imagine the book Freckle Juice). Depending on the creator of the drink it could get pretty rough both alcoholic and non alcoholic. It's a practice that doesn't occur all that much anymore for various reasons (most of them BS reasons in the mind of most old school Dawgs). Korea is a great assignment for most because everyone is in the same boat (w/o family) and the comaraderie is usually very strong. There were 20 Dawgs in my shop and rarely did we go anywhere with less than 12-15 of us. We had chants, Dawg Calls, Dawg Ears (every Dawg had a P-phone in there room and we did 'all pages' to notify the rest to gather up for whatever). Hopefully this helps you. Every assignment is what you personally make it. Good luck. Wire by Choice, Dawgs for Life!!!!
