2E6X2 - Career Field Description

Career Field Title : Communications Cable and Antenna Systems

Provides command and control (C2) capabilities through installation, maintenance, fault isolation, and reconstitution of fixed cable/wireless distribution systems, local area networks (LAN), and wide area networks (WAN) in support of tactical and strategic operations.

Monitors and analyzes performance of underground, buried, and aerial cables and antenna networks.

CFETP 2E6X2 - Communications Cable and Antenna Systems


AKA: Cable Splicer, Cable Maintenance, Hardened Intersite Cable System (HICS), Antenna Maintenance, Outside Plant Construction, Cable Dawgs,

Would you know or have any information on the AFSC change from when it was 361x0 and the the AFSC of when it changed to 2E6X2?

Memory is a bit foggy but 361X0 was the Antenna AFSC and 361X1 was the Cable AFSC and the 2E6X2 AFSC was the merger of those two career fields.

Also the 36 to 2E merger took place in October 1993

Seems i was foggy. in oct 93 the AF reorg changed the 361X0's to 2E6X1's Communications Antenna Systems

361X1's AFSC changed to 2E6X2's Communications Cable Systems

and eventually 2E6X1's combined with 2E6X2's to become Communications Cable and Antenna Systems.

361X0 back in the early 70's was "Outside Wire and Antenna Maintenance Specialist". Got out in 77 and don't know what happened after that. We were Outside Plant or Construction. Worked on everything from telephone cable to antenna's. If it was communications and outside the bldg we took care of it. Every job was something new and different!
