Any Info on Buckley??

Hi, I am thinking about trying to get to Buckley ANG in Colorado. I know there are some dawgs out there. What kind of work is it; base comm, commercial comm QA, combat comm????

Thanks a lot!

I'm at Buckley now and it's actually an active duty base now under the 460th SCS. I just got here from Ramstein (1st Combat Comm) and personally love it here. The dawgs that have been here a while don't like the job as much but still love the area. We have four civilians that work the switch, and also help us out on the work orders. The majority of our work orders that I have seen have been pulling CAT5/Fiber, and terminating to whatever has to be at the ends. I personally love it here though!

Best of luck!

I was at Buckley for 4 years before I decided to take a 365 in Afghanistan to get out of there...it's nice at first, but it gets REAL old. The common thing you'll hear is that the area is cool (East Denver) but the base sucks. It's an Avaya switch, which doesn't really matter since you do ZERO switch work there. All you do is pull cable basically. That is of course when there is cable/wire work available. Most of the time our shop was used for rent-a-crowds and other numerous mandatory formations. If you're coming from a high-pace unit (i.e. the 1st CCS) you will love Buckley at first as you get to rest. Then it will get old, and you'll miss the 1st. ON THE GOOD SIDE:

The wire/cable dawg (we were one shop there) shop there are some of the most sharp, hard working, hard partying, close-knit wire dawgs I have ever worked with. And EXTREMELY sarcastic. I mean, more than usual. PT is HUGE in that shop. Not in a bad way though. There was of course the regular either flight level or sqdn level mando PT, but everyone there utilized their time for working out pretty well the other times.

If you want to relax and deploy to either Al Udeid or Ali Al Salem a lot, you'll love Buckley.

Thanks for the information from both of you. I've never been around an Avaya switch; that would be interesting. Are the civilain workers goverment workers or contractors? It has been a while since I've been at a blue suit base, it would be nice to get back to one.

All the civilians are Government workers, and if you want to learn ANYTHING all you have to do is ask them.

Man,
Wish I had seen your post earlier! You may think it would be interesting to work with the Avaya switch, unfortunately here, we don't work with it. I've been stationed here for 6 years and have worked with the switch approximately 8 times. The civilians do all of the switch work and we just pull cable and run fiber if your lucky. This place is a black hole and will suck you in! My husband (another wiredawg) has been here for 7 years and we just finally got orders!
Like D-town said it's cool in the begining, then you just get burned out sitting around doing jack and crap all day long. If your looking to go to college and stuff, this would be an ideal opportunity. Other than that I would steer clear of Buckley, unless your wanting to work on your outside life, not your military career.

Sounds like a lot of lazy whiners. GOYDA - Get off your dead ass! Finish your CCAF, finish a BS degree, dive in to the activities of the local area (Colorado was the best assignment I had for off duty activities!).

If you are only "sitting around doing jack and crap all day" you deserve the 3 APR you get.
