New 2E6X3 here!

Hi everyone,

I just recently enlisted in the USAF as a 2E6X3. I ship out to basic in the end of August. Since this forum is intended for enlistees in the 2E field, I thought it would be helpful to get all the information from everyone here. I would like to know everything you love about being a telephone sytems apprentice. All positives and negatives. What can I expect on a daily basis? I really hope that my first assignment will be located overseas.(Japan specifically) Thanks and I look forward to any responses!

Congrats on being selected for the best job in the Air Force!

After 22 years as a 2E6X3, i can honestly say I've never wanted a different job.

I would say my favorite thing about the job is doing something different every day, never knowing what the next job is going to be.

I've also enjoyed the satisfaction of completing a difficult trouble or work request.

You will learn something daily in this career field starting from day 1, 20 years later you will still be learning daily.

Best of luck
Jay

Welcome to the Wiredawg family! Like Jay said, I've never wanted a different job either, In fact I truly believe we have the best job in the Air Force. I am one of the Instructor Supervisors here at the VNS (wiredawg) schoolhouse @ Sheppard. If you have any question/concerns please feel free to call, my number to my desk is 940-676-6492. If you are going to basic @ the end of August you wil graduate basic mid/end of October then go to Keesler AFB MS for Electronic Principles which is another 9 weeks so you won't get here to Sheppard until December. We have a break over the Christmas/New Years holiday so you might want to save some money for that.

Welcome to the telecomm family. I'm a cable dawg, pretty much your brother-in-arms as you'll learn at Sheppard. It seems you got a good time to go through BMT, huh? I went to BMT in the middle of November '05, so I missed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. It was good times. haha! It should go by fast, so you shouldn't have any worries.

Don't stress too much about EP. It's probably the most mentally straining courses you'll ever have to take. It's the epitome of death-by-powerpoint. I remember one of the lessons had 300+ slides. It'll all be worth it in the end.

I was actually extremely lucky to get stationed at Yokota Air Base, Japan, which is in Greater Tokyo. Japan has everything you'd want from it and more, simple and plain.

Good luck to you, man.

The guys that posted before me are right, this is the best job in the Air Force. I've done it for 16 years and wouldn't change any of the experiences I had. Once you get great at the job, there are a few perks you will find out about the job.
