Esco,

I was there from May-Sep. '07 and the base was in the process of installing a new wireless internet system. The quarters were about 50/50 tents (8 people per) and trailers (3 rooms per trailer-2 people per room). I've since heard that there are more trailers now. Just make sure to take care of your AC unit cause they go out frequently if not maintained and well, I'm sure you can imagine what's it's like without AC over there. There was an education center. It was small but I knew many people that took a bunch of classes so you should be fine there. They've also opened up a new Rec tent and it's a big damn tent. I hear they have two seperate areas for TV/movies, new poker tables, two new pools tables, foosball etc etc. Always something to do in there. Honestly, between working 12's, going to the gym and the rec tent, the time will fly. Best of luck. If you're still there in September, stop by Comm Alley and holla at your Dawg brothers cuz we'll be there. Wire by Choice, Dawg for Life!!!

logginss pretty much nailed it on the head. I was there from Sept. 06 to Feb. 07, and the best improvement we had seen was the DFAC completion. It's a decent tour once you get out and see some of Saddam's palaces and stuff...Be safe

Answers.....
Internet service - You can get a plan for about $50, and another refundable $30 will get you a antenna on your caddillac. They still have some tents set up, but I'm not sure where they put the TCN personnel. You do get more room in a tent, since they converted the caddillacs to bunkbeds - this is so your replacement can roll into the top while you roll out of the bottom, but they have had some issues....
Education center is over by the post office - you can take a couple of tests on-line, but your in the waiting line with a load of other people for the five computers. The rec center is pretty big for a tent, and there is a gaming section in the back, but it's nothing to really brag about. You'll get in a lot of BINGO time.
Bring a laptop (if you have one) and if you have an ipod, sync everything you want state-side. Lots of people w/ many problems.
A few people were buying the laptops over there, but could not get them on-line because the built-in wireless cards were 210N and the every other day systems was set up for 210G.
I was there from Oct 07-Feb 08. You'll have fun- just keep your eyes open and pay attention. GL.
