2E future??

Here at lackland, and just got an influx of airmen in from tech school. Rumor has it tht they have re-opened the pipe and cannot/will not close down the school.

They finally did the 2-flight structure, and now we are titled as the Cyber Systems Transport Technicians. We are still in the process of merging cable/outside plant and just started the VOIP buildings.

They also pulled X2's back to Tyndall because of the reorg, so I'm still trying to figure out what the game plan is for the cable. I know more than a few bases show up to PCS to, but most of them are QA slots.

WG's used to be an option, but now with the re-bid every 5 years, it's not a guarantee that you'll be in the same spot you once were.

My question is has anyone heard how the school is going to change? I know you can't make everyone go back and scale a tower or climb a pole..... any insight would be welcome.

Probably be like our Airfiled systems guys and just OJT all the new requirements/tasks. Could be that the new guys will get all the training in the schoolhouse, but the old guys will either do TDY training or OJT. I'm kinda curious myself as my position here at McConnell has changed. I was QA for 2 1/2 years, moved to TDC, now looking at moving to SCX as a GeoBase program manager. I'm sure we'll all be generic "comm" troops before long (the threatened 1B career feild combining 3A, 3C, 2E's). Jack-of-all-trades, master of none.

I just got out of tech school in April. From what the Command Chief for all 2E's said we aren't going anywhere. They had a big meeting with a bunch of big wig's at the school and that's what everyone got out of it. They can't merge us with anyone because our job isn't like any other's. They started making us go to EP but now are cutting that out for us and just teaching us what we need when we get to shep. They are going to make lakeland E&I from what I understand. About half of each class has gone there for awhile now. They have like a 90 man shop now! I guess we will see what happens since I have another for sure 5 year's.

As far as Cable Dawgs go the word so far is that you don't match anything and they are going to pretty much leave you alone because you don't fit anywhere else. The schoolhouse is planning a few minor changes because you will pick up a few new CTS items and you will also lose a few. Currently nothing is set in stone so we'll just have to wait and see like everybody else. If you need specifics Mr. Hemmingson is the Instructor Supervisor here at the Sheppard Schoolhouse he will have the latest and greatest info. As of right now though he doesn't know anymore than what's here.
