Paul Murphy

Mr. Murphy died Friday July 31, 2009. Murf was a retired Wire Dawg and a great help to us here at Offutt when working over at STRAT. He will be missed. Below message is from the USSTRATCOM web page.

It is with great sadness that we convey the death of Mr. Paul Murphy
("Murf"). Murf lost his long battle with cancer last Friday evening at home
with his wife and several friends. He was a valued member of the Facilities
Branch and has served the command for over 18 years. We will miss his
cheerful attitude as well as his dedication to maintaining the operation of
the phone system.

A memorial service is scheduled at 1500 on 4 August 2009 (Tuesday) at the
Papillion Christian Center, 1301 Gold Coast Road, Papillion, NE.
Flowers/condolences can be sent directly to the Papillion Christian Center.

Oh wow, as a first term Airman at Offutt, I had many a contact with Murph. I never knew he was batteling cancer. I remember our dawg calls to the VFW and while all the shop was getting drunk he was at the bar drinking 7-up.

That man did so much work over there in Stratcom, from relocating huge offices like DFAS by himself, to relocating cross connects on a whim. He never stayed idle. RIP Murph,

"Hey, it's Murph"

I knew Murph "Papa Smurf" from my first tour at Offutt. I remember when he worked our supply he would always say he didn't have what you needed but some how or other he would get what you needed to get the job done. Him and his gigantic coffee cup will be dearly missed.
