AFI Referance

I remember hearing about Voice Network Systems (or communications squadrons in general) having to provide at a minimum of POTS service to each building. I read through 33-111 and did not find anything, where would the referance be? Thanks for the help in advance.

Does that mean every numbered building on base? Like water pump stations, electrical access facilities, flightline barrier huts and even the toilet facilities at recreation areas?

I think the mission should dictate the need. If they can't justify the mission, they don't need the phone.

33-111 should list common requiremenst for service and special cases are listed in appendix 4, but others should at least claim safety concerns for personnel working at that location (i.e. ability to contact fire/life safety during emergency).

I believe if the building is occupied and used then yes it is required to have a phone. The reason is for emergency even if the mission doesn't dictate it. If we don't have the means i believe it can be contracted. I don't know if there is a reference I just heard this from an old ncoic that may of just told someone that to get them to stop complaining lol. good luck.

You are correct. All facilities that are bigger than a shed and actually have office space are required to have a phone in them. It is actually covered in the Engineering Technical Letter (ETL) for Communications and Information System Criteria for Air Force. You should be able to get a copy of this either from your Plans & Programs, CE or Contracting. Hope this helps.
