Looking for Cable Tech for Turkey
Interested in finding some wire dawgs getting off active duty and looking to spend a year or 2 at various location in Turkey. The pay is between $55K and $70K. This might be a great opportunity for a junior to mid-grade technician looking for some added experience in a pretty great location. Some of the requirements are listed below. jdougherty@drs-ds.com• Operate and maintain the Nortel Meridian Telephone Switch system.
• Evaluate and provide service requests; perform programming changes for telephone numbers and class of service, and activate special features.
• Carry out day to day processes within the communications infrastructure to include the pulling, testing, toning, labeling, troubleshooting, and repairing inside and outside plant wiring
• Physically install Category 3, Category 5, Enhanced Category 5, Category 6 and Fiber Optic Structured Cable Distribution Systems
• Accurately test copper and fiber (multimode and single mode) cables to required certification parameters utilizing appropriate test equipment
• Diagnose and correct copper and optical fiber problems
• Splice and repair copper cable in accordance with (IAW) Telecommunications Industry Association/Electronic Industries Alliance (TIA/EIA) standards.
• Splice, and repair fiber optic cables. Fiber optic splices will use fusion splice and/or mechanical splice techniques IAW TIA/EIA standards.
• Maintain accurate and readable cable pair assignment records in electronic format as prescribed in local procedures.
• Determine closet and equipment layouts and install closet hardware including
backboards, connecting blocks, racks, patch panels and fiber enclosures
• Install entrance facility grounding infrastructure and perform grounding tests
• Maintain, repair, install, and relocate telephone instruments, to include ISDN telephone equipment, Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) telephone equipment, telephone key system equipment, CM-8 and PG-Flex multiplexers, Local Area Network (LAN) cabling, modems, facsimile, fiber-optic and other similar or associated communications materials and equipment.
• Inspect all communication house cables and associated connectors according to best commercial practices.
• Install, upgrade, replace, maintain, relocate, and remove all terminal boards, cross connect boxes, fiber optic couplers, and fiber media converters.
• Install telephone premise wire from the outside cable plant terminal protector to the telephone instrument, IAW TIA/EIA standards.
• Locate and connect underground communication utilities
• Perform site surveys, read and use blueprints and floor plan and conduct visual site
inspections
• Review and update inside and outside cable plant drawings
• Perform administrative tasks including, but not limited to, documenting test results and as-builts, completing safety reports, keeping safety meeting minutes, maintaining log books, providing labor summary reports, etc.
• Maintain and reference industry standards including American National Standards Institute (ANSI), EIA/TIA, and local US Air Force telecommunication and electrical standards.
Basic Qualifications
• High School diploma, or equivalent
• Technical training equivalent to a technical Associate degree
• At least 3 years experience working as a cable technician
• Extensive knowledge of inside and outside cable plant infrastructure, engineering, installation, and testing
• Extensive knowledge of digital telephone switch operations and maintenance.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
• Must meet overseas medical deployment qualifications
• Applicant must be a US citizen.
• Must also possess at a minimum a currently active SECRET clearance or higher, meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security investigation.
• Employment will be contingent upon favorable results of a company background investigation and drug screening.
