There are definite pros and cons. The biggest pro, in my opinion, is that we will all expand our knowledge base. The switchers, routers (Infrastructure) side of the house is extremely marketable. Get a couple CISCO certs tucked under you belt and you're practically good to go in or out of the AF.
The down side is that we are cutting ties with our own people in some ways. Any of us that went to CST are now seen as "Outside plant" and the Cyber Transport guys/gals are seen as "Inside plant" and some of know how we used to bicker and blame each other back in the day. As one shop we all worked together inside and out in the field. Plus, with the break up, we've in a sense added another step for the customer to have to navigate. No disrespect to any of us that have gotten stuck or rotated through the CFP, but I've yet to see that added workcenter pay off.
I would imagine that in 5 or so years when Cyber is all that we know and us older Dawgs are gone, it might start to work as smoothly as the "they" planned it to work.
Either way, I'll consider myself WIRE not Cyber until I die! WIRE by Choice, DAWG for Life!!!! WIIIIRRRRRREEEEEE!!!!!
