Hey, Dawgs, I'm looking for some info regarding climbing. I'm stationed in the UK, and we seem to have a problem with certain non-wiredawg types (i.e. darts, officers, etc.) on base constantly asking me if it's OK to climb our towers. According to AFOSH 91-50, only certain AFCS's are authorized to climb poles and towers. The only exceptions are people specifically appointed by the installation commander. Also, the individual has to have a duty-related need to climb. Unfortunately, some people (usually, people who outrank me) don't understand this. They want to climb just so they can say "Look at me, Mom, I'm climbing!" Some of them just want to experience the rush. I even had a few geniuses who insisted that I could "climb certify" them. We'll I ain't got time to be running a theme park. This ain't no Disneyland. This is an antenna farm, and if I let these wiredawg wannabes climb our towers, it'll probably be my butt on the line if somebody gets hurt. Every wiredawg had to spend a whole week of tech school to get climb certified. If darts, officers and computer nerds want to climb, they should be required to go through the same training that we all had to go through. Does anybody know of any other AFI's, TO's, or any other directives that wouId shed more light on the subject? I need something in black and white that will convince these people that it's a good idea to just leave the climbing to us professionals. If any of you guys know of anything that would help, please post it. Thanks, fellow dawgs!!
