Wiredawgs

In the course of my 9 years, 2 months and 3 days in the Air Force, the best year was the one spent (91'-92') working for you wiredawgs at Lindsey Air Station, Germany!!

I was actually one of the last two people to close the 1836 EIG HQ building turning it over to the Germans in Aug of 92'. I also have a video of the ceremony retiring the squadron at the NCO club! GOD did I spend some $$$ there. OK, a few memories from that time...

1. Getting hammered with my boss, Jim Smeltz at the club 7 nights a week.
2. Boots in the trees in front of B-19
3. Somebody 'crapping' on the front porch of the squadron (classic)
4. Chief Hohlen putting the entire dorm on CQ (Thanks Chief!)!
5. Watching pornos in the dayroom on a big screen TV
6. Dave Saborit, Tim Jacks and I cranking Metallica's "Black" Album in the dorm and waking up half of Sheirsteinerstrasse.
7. There were German girls in the bathrooms,...even in the showers every morning.....
8 Hearing the story about Smeltz flying to Atlanta to meet his bride (unseen BTW) and he get's so trashed that he has to be taken off the plane in a wheelchair and a sign around his neck, (FIRST IMPRESSIONS!!!)
9. The 1991 1836 EIG X-mas party our band played "Enter Sandman" by Metallica! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
10. Liz McDaniel.......
11. LindseyFest (Winter and Summer) My friend from Ohio showed up and drank too much BINDING....he $&%@ on himself.
12. Learning the 1836 chant the first night in country,..."Born in the backwoods, raised by a bear, double row of back teeth, double coat of hair, etc...etc...
13. Heineken in the soda machines

I've got at least a hundred more...I'll spare you all.

BTW folks, married a woman from Mainz and we go back every year and will be there this XMAS for 2 weeks. I've been back several times in the past 10 years and LINDSEY looks much different. B-19 houses refugees and the NCO club......hold on to your hat.....is a Mosque. Yes, what was once a pit of decadence and debauchery is now a Mosque. Isn't anything sacred?

One more tidbit. 2 years ago was visiting Germany and was walking in Rudesheim and out of the blue, this German guy grabs me and starts hugging me......for those of you who remember him, it was Rhinehardt Kretschmar, the German Msgt who was always at the club and hung with alot of the 1836 folks!!!!! Small world. He had a hot daughter too...I will visit him in December.
