On Christmas Day, 2008, I took a step back into memory lane and revisited Lindsey AS in Weisbaden, Germany. For those that don't know, this is where the 1836th and Combat Comm were until Lindsey's closure in the early 1990s. Parts of it were like I never left over two decades ago... others were unrecognizable. I have 24 photos to share and I hope you enjoy them.
This is the main drag looking back at the main gate. I'm standing up near the old Rocker Club.

This was the old club. After Lindsey closed, it was used as some sort of a church. As you can see, it is being completely gutted. I wonder if Mario is still around.

This was one of the two doors to the Cave. Thurs/Fri/Sat nights, this place rocked! Who remembers Friday morning roll calls? Ouch!

The gym is still there, along with the football field. In my three years at Lindsey, I think I entered the gym twice, once for an open-ranks inspection in service dress. The second time to take a leak.

B-19 looking across the parade field. Lots of construction going on around the base and this is the closest I could get to it.

B-18, the old 1836 HQ.

The back of the ABG HQ. Seconds after I took this photo, some armed guards chased me down. (I can't run as fast as I used to, maybe I should have spent more time in the gym). Luckily, Alex was with me. Since she speaks fluent German, she explained what I was doing and they let me go.

Combat Comm Compound has been demolished and apartment buildings have been built. Combat Comm is now part of my Group at Ramstein.

Shoppette. Home of cheap beer and cigarettes. Cigarettes were something like $3 per carton. We were allowed 4 cartons/month on our ration cards.

This is where the bank and ATM were. Before the days of "Sure Pay" and "Direct Deposit" the line would be out-the-door on paydays when we were trying to cash our checks.

Post Office. I remember waiting in line for hours trying to mail home packages for the holidays. Just past the Post Office and before the bank/shoppette, there was a small Stars and Stripes Bookstore.

This is where the Lindsey tower and Chow Hall once stood. One year I got stuck decorating that tower with Christmas lights on a cold, Saturday morning after a Friday night in the Cave. During our work, several bulbs were thrown off the tower by disgruntled E&Iers.

The Parade field and ABG HQ is in the distance. Movie Theater is on the left, CBPO (MPF for all you newbies) is on the right.

The bowling alley is gone. This pic is of the general area. I remember the breakfast specials after roll calls... 99 cents for 2 eggs, bacon, toast and coffee.

Down the road on the left is B-19.

This is about where the other dorm once stood on the other side of base. Most of E&I were in B-19, but some lived in the other dorm, I think the building number was A-10 or something like that. There used to be a big parking lot in front of it.

This is the side of Lindsey taken from off base. This is where the old NCO Academy once stood. (Go out the main gate, take a left down to the corner, take another left and walk down 100 yards).

Backside of B-19. Across the street was the 1836 compound.

This is where the 1836 compound was. In the center of this picture is where the gate and "Round House" once stood.

Western Saloon as it appears today. I didn't hang out there too much, but a lot of people from Lindsey did.
